Daily Prayer for February 24, 2020

Note: Starting today, I will be using the Westminster Shorter Catechism as the basis of the daily prayers.

Westminster Shorter Catechism Q1

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man? A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, you are glorious and mighty, the Lord full of mercy and lovingkindness. We ascribe to you glory and strength and the glory that is due to your name. We bless you for inviting us into your presence today. We are thankful for the work of your Son, who has given us this great privilege and duty. We are grateful that you have told us to cast our cares upon you because you care for us.

As we come, we are reminded of our duty towards you as your creatures. You alone have made us. We belong to you. You made man on the sixth day to worship you. Thus, we know that your Word declares that we are to glorify you in all that we say and do. We know that we fall short of this righteous demand each day. Please forgive us, Father, for our transgressions. Do not treat us as our sins deserve. Help us, by your Spirit, to have as our chief and primary goal of life to honor you with our words, thoughts, and behavior. We pray for your people and ask that you would bring to mind the words they heard in the preaching of your Word on the Lord's Day. May you help all of us to not be hearers of your Word only, but doers of it as well. Grant to your church a greater zeal to glorify you by behaving in a way that is consistent with a follower of Christ. Help us to remember our primary duty today is to do all that you have told us, to the glory of your great Name.

Be merciful to us, Father. Grant us that which you command we pray in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
